4th week

Fin. I couldn't image that a month pass away that fast. Now, when  the time is over I realized that there are so many things I hadn’t manage to see.

But, like always, just let’s start with the Monday. Monday we worked in our companies. So I finished a 2D animation, where shears cut the Lambeth Logo into little pieces. I also heard that an old animation don’t work, I will fix it with the help of our teacher. I also want to stay in contact with Lambeth Mencap. Now I know the people who work there and I know some of them who use their services and so I want to help them to fight again the cuts. Tuesday was our last day at work. I was a little sad when we went to our home, I will miss all the people.

Monday evening Mietz, Canon and I went to Greenwich to visit the Millenniums hall. It was great and we also found a place where we could take shoots of the skyline of London. Tuesday Canon and I searched for a place to go shopping, but we didn’t find the place that our supervisor described to us. Well sad, but we found another place and so it was a funny evening.

Wednesday was English lesson. One after one talked to Nick, our teacher who helped us to look optimistic at the future. What I talked with him? Secret. But I have to say that it was a nice conversation and helped myself to forget about some things that bums me down. Now I’m ready to look forward.

So, this is the last day. I had finished my live dream presentation yesterday and spoke it often to see how long I take. I think it was a good speech today and I explained my dreams as well as I can. Embrace also will stay in contact with me. I hope I can comeback sometimes. There were many problems, like no warm water at 2 evenings and some planning mistakes but all in all it was a great time.

So, that’s my last post from London, because tomorrow we will flight away. I’m a little sad to go back to Germany, but there are so many things that I missed, too.

Selex

3rd Week

Wow, most of the time that I am in London has past. We try to see what we can this week, but when work is done the most shops and museums have closed.

But first start with Monday. In the evening there was a meeting with a councilor, where disable persons can speak to him. There were also problems with the microphone and while Canon fix it I have to do the film. I saw a woman which was that angry about the cuts and some people which use the services of Lambeth Mencap and filmed her. We finished late and come home at ten o’clock, no much time for sightseeing.

The Tuesday started normal till we pass the door of the Lambeth Mencap office. Alan came to us, told us where the Channel 4 building is and that we can go and see the meeting there. We were so happy that we are allowed to go to the building of Channel 4 and so we take the bus. Over an hour later we stand there at the reception and tell the woman why we are here. She was very kind and so we came in to listen to the last part of a speech from a professor. But the workshop that followed was very interesting. After the speeches we went with Steve and Sabrina to Westminster Abbey and Downing street, the street where the prime minister lives to do some shoots. Brave Sabrina, she knows that much about the cuts and fights so strong against them. We were back at the office at 2 o’clock without time to eat. I edited some pictures I had taken on Monday and then the work day was over. So hurry at home, do something to eat and let’s go to the city. But when we arrived at Elephant and Castle all shops was closed. Where are we? Chemnitz? This is London! You cannot close before 6 o’clock. That ruins my dream of London! 

But Wednesday we arrived before they close and I could by a new jacket. My work at this day was it to finish the editing of the photos and than a move on to help Canon with the video that should stop the cuts.

Thursday I want to begin a flash video that I prepared the days before. It should explain the cuts to disable people. When I started Charmain, a staff member of the Friends Service that will be cut comes in to say, that it would be better to do a presentation. So I started to work on a presentation with the animations I’ve already finished and did some more animations. Wow, when you work hard on a presentation with this lot’s of animations it can take some time. So I finished at Friday morning, but I wanted to try it on the Laptop it should run on and, tada the Laptop didn’t work. Five minutes before it was used our Supervisor told me that it should run with Open Office. But, I’ve fix it and it was done..

But now I should do another little flash animation. A shear should cut the Logo of Lambeth Mencap into pieces.

We decided to stay at the flat at Thursday, that we are fit for the weekend.

At Friday afternoon when everybody arrived we go to Waterloo to see the Imax Cinema. We had luck because there was cards for good places left and so we were able to see Tron Legacy. Wow, what a movie, what a cinema. 26 meters long screen, that’s amazing. At the begin we saw some trailers in the normal cinema size and it was hardly ¼ of the size of the screen. Tron is a good movie, too. It’s fresh and new and so Canon, Mietz and I were very happy. Mietz and I decided to see Avatar Extended at the next day and Adora came with us. But before we go to the Imax we also seen the Chinese new year celebrity at China Town and ate some Asian food, very delicious. Avatar was very good and the battles were really cool at this big screen, but after the movie my head hurts. We went home at 4 o’clock and slept long. Sunday we go twice to the Chinese new year at Chinatown and there we saw the parade with the dragon. We all don’t catch lot sleep last night, so we go back at 6 o’clock when the New Year celebrity finished

2nd Week

Halftime. I don’t realized that 2 weeks can pass away that fast. Everyday is the same: go to work wait for the others. As I expected I can’t learn some 3 D stuff at my work, but therefor I refresh my 2D skills in 2 little Animations. We also was out a lot and do film shoots for Lambeth Mencap. We meet the parents of Henry, a man who use Lambeth Mencaps services. He lives in a house where is staff that helps him to manage the daily routine. And he is a great drummer! He did some drum on the couch and it sounds great. His parents told us some things out of their life with Henry, I think it was really interesting. We also do some film shoot while Henry drummed at another day.

Back in the Lambeth Mencap office we shoot films with other disable persons. We, that means that Canon does the film shoots and I look and try to see some tricks ;).  At Thursday we had a mostly free day because we have to do some film shoots at Monday evening next week. Now, that I know some of the persons that Lambeth Mencap work with I want to help then even more than in the begin. It’s hard for them to do some leisure activities without help, and as one of the interviewed said: You can’t do something you can’t do.

My second animation, it contains works of the art course, so the copyright is by Lambeth Mencap and the members that made the pictures. You are not allowed to use a picture or the animation.

In our free time we mostly explore the Iceland to buy food we need. I was afraid of the prices for the food, but they are not this expensive as I thought. Canon found some great cookies and I can’t stop to eat them. (I bought my own cookies, don’t you think I eat all the cookies from the poor Canon) They are so delicious!

Friday afternoon we decided to go out. First we have a second visit at the Trocadero centre. Then we go down the street and find some shops for cloths. The fashion in London is so great. No compare to the fashion you can buy at Chemnitz.

The weekend we spend with Sightseeing. Saturday we was at the British Museum. I really enjoyed the time and took lot of photos, to remember lot of things. Afterwards we took the train to Camden, second try and we got it. There are a lot of different shops.

1st Week

Wow, first Week managed.  I work at Lambeth Mencap, a company that helps disable persons. Now they have a lot of cuts. To fight again this, they want Canon and me to do a video with live stories.

But let’s start my report with the Tuesday, and: English.  It began at 11 o’clock, I love English working times, but end at five o’clock. Nick, our teacher seems to be nice, he’s a funny guy and lesson flow away. What we learned? Some about the sheets in our folder, about tenthousand of reports for only one day and projects we have to do. I already knew that we have to do an English blog, but there are more tasks. One is the life dream presentation at the end of the internship. Nick told us a few things about it and slowly I get an idea what I want to do. Life dream , it’s so an big word, but easily you only talk ten minutes about one think you like. The object is to explain the passion that you feel for your wish.

When lesson was finish we ask Nick where we can find the tube station, because my friends and I want to go to Soho. It’s the Japanese part of the city. Also Phillip said something of a Japan  centre, and I really wanted to go there. Do I have to say that we hadn’t found it? Nick took us to Soho, and that was really kind of him, but he also didn’t know where this Japanese centre should be. So we explore Soho at night, it was great and Chinatown, which we found, was so nice. 

In the evening, when we came to our flat, Mietz and I recognized that there are some brown flecks at our ceiling. Not that nice, but they wasn’t so big that we worried about them. Great mistake. In the next few days they grown bigger and bigger, but then after two or three days they stopped. Water flecks, nobody want or can do something again these.

At Wednesday we, that means Canon and I, went to our internship company: Lambeth Mencap, where we was at the begin of my writing. Allan, our supervisor seems to be a nice guy and we all understand each other well. I really want to help them, and I think Canon is the same, so we will do our best to help Lambeth Mencap. http://www.lambethmencap.org.uk/

Our way to work is the shortest from all of our classmates, we only have to walk ten minutes and then we are at work. It’s great, because we work till 4 pm and so we have a lot of time to explore London

Thursday we had some free time, the same was with Mietz and Saskia.  So we decided to go to the portrait gallery and after this we wanted to explore London. We saw Trocadero with Tokyo Toys Shop, a big game shop and I think there was also a Claires.

Then we walked to Big Ben, which we was able to see from so far. Friday we took a day to rest, like Sunday where we did some of the homework that Nick gave us. At Saturday we found the Japanese Center and, what should I say? I was a little disappointed. I expected fashion out of Japan and lot’s of Mangas, but all they have was Japanese food. So I bought some strawberry Pandas, and they are so delicious, I really need to buy another one for me and a second for my family. Then we went to Camden, but lot of shops already closed when we arrived. So, we have to go there the next weekend, too.

Wow, first week managed, as I said. Seems to be like a wonder that I didn’t got lost. All of the city became so familiar and normal. I really enjoy my time at London and hope that the other three weeks will be as good as the first one.

Hello and Welcome to the SchreibBlog London. “Schreibblog” is a german word mix. In english “Schreibblock” means note pad, so I switch the “ck” and the “g”, because it’s a Blog.

Well, let me introduce myself. I’m a german girl wich is in London now. I don’t like Blogs or blogging. Say I’m old fashioned, but I mislike the idea that all of you guys, wich I don’t’ know, know my name, my age and the city where I live. So let’s say, let me introduce my Nickname: Selex Polarstern.

I love to draw and I also love to play computer games. So, naturally, I want to become a game artist or 3 d Modeler. 3D is the future, but I really like it to do 2 D Animations in my freetime and I also enjoy good 2D movies.  Reading a good book means the sky for me and give also some time to rest. But it’s boring to spend my whole time at home, so as everyone I like it to go out with my friends, maybe there is a good film in the cinema. To stay healthy I go once a week to the pool and swim a lot.

Wow, so now, what do I hope to achieve on my placement? Hard to say, because I don’t know where I will work. I wrote down on my application that I want to do 3D, so I would say it would be great to ain some knowledge with 3D modeling.

Hmmm, now Embrace want me to have some philosophies. Yeah, I write this Blog not because I want to, I write it because I have to. Don’t think that it doesn’t make fun, but as I said, I don’t like it to write down all of me in the internet. I will see it as a new experience an here you have something that I can call philosophie: If there is something  you don’t like to do or you don’t know how to do, see it as an experience.

So, let’s start my internship at London!
